Hello there,
As autumn settles across the Sunshine Coast with its gentle invitation to release and renew, this month calls you to explore authentic connection—the kind that honours both your truth and the truth of those around you.
Not the performance of connection where you shape yourself to fit what others need. Genuine connection that reflects who you actually are.
Understanding Your Relationship Patterns
We all develop patterns in how we relate to others. Some patterns serve us beautifully. Others—not so much.
Perhaps you’re the person who always says yes, even when you’re stretched thin. Maybe you avoid conflict at all costs, even when something genuinely bothers you. You might share everything with everyone, or keep most people at arm’s length.
These patterns made sense when they developed. They helped you navigate your relationships and feel safe in connection. But patterns that once protected you might now be limiting the depth and authenticity of your relationships.
This week isn’t about fixing yourself. It’s about noticing—with curiosity rather than judgment—how you actually show up in your relationships.
Where Are You Performing?
Here’s an interesting question: In which of your relationships can you be fully yourself, and in which do you feel like you’re playing a role?
Think about your closest connections. With your partner, can you express when you’re overwhelmed, need space, or disagree? With your friends, can you admit when you’re struggling rather than performing that everything’s fine? With your family, can you show up as who you are now rather than who they remember you being?
The places where you’re hiding parts of yourself—those are the places where authentic connection isn’t fully happening yet.
Identifying Your Connection Needs
Different people need different things from close relationships. Some need regular quality time; others need space for independence. Some need deep conversation; others need playfulness. Some need verbal affirmation; others need practical support.
There’s no hierarchy here. Your needs are as legitimate as anyone else’s, even if they’re completely different.
The challenge isn’t having needs. The challenge is knowing what they actually are and believing they matter as much as everyone else’s needs.
When you’re clear about what you genuinely need in connection—emotional safety, intellectual stimulation, respect for boundaries, physical affection, shared interests—you can start being more intentional about where you invest your relationship energy.
Your Week 1 Challenge
This week, I invite you to build your foundation for authentic connection:
1. Pattern Recognition: Identify your three most common relationship patterns without judgment
2. Authenticity Audit: Rate your authenticity (1-10) in your five closest relationships—where do you feel safest being yourself?
3. Needs Clarity: Identify your top five relationship needs—what actually nourishes you in connection?
4. Reality Assessment: Notice which relationships meet your needs and which don’t
5. Foundation Setting: Create space in your schedule for this month’s work
Remember, you’re not trying to overhaul everything simultaneously. You’re building a foundation of clarity that will guide conscious choices.
As you explore this week, notice:
• Which patterns show up most consistently?
• Where can you show up most authentically?
• What do you genuinely need in relationships?
• Which connections nourish you versus drain you?
Seasonal Wisdom
Autumn’s energy is perfect for this work. The natural rhythm of release and renewal, the cooler temperatures inviting reflection, that feeling that transformation is not only possible but necessary.
What relationship patterns are you ready to release this season, like falling leaves? What connections deserve your energy through the cooler months ahead?
